Cinnamon Sticks
Hand-peeled by skilled artisans. Known for delicate sweetness, complex aroma, and ultra-low coumarin levels.
True Cinnamomum verum — grown sustainably on our family estate in Sri Lanka. Banking precision meets traditional craftsmanship to bring premium cinnamon to kitchens worldwide.
The story of Matara Spice Co. begins with R.A. Lionel Ranawaka. After decades as a Deputy Chief Financial Officer at a major Sri Lankan state bank, Lionel returned to his roots in Malimbada, Matara—the ancestral home of true cinnamon.
What started as a retirement passion on a 4-acre estate soon revealed exceptional quality. Lionel applied the same meticulous attention to detail required in high-level finance to the art of cultivation. His sons, Thushara (Asia) and Ishara (Australia), joined forces to turn this passion into a global venture.
We believe in ethical partnership, not just employment. We proudly share 50% of peeling profits directly with the skilled local artisans who craft our quills. This ensures sustainability for the community in Malimbada.
Our Future Vision: We are expanding our cultivation to include a boutique cinnamon experience villa, where visitors can eventually join us to harvest, peel, and process oil firsthand.
Harvested, peeled, and processed on our family estate. We specialize in Cinnamomum verum—lighter, sweeter, and safer than common Cassia.

Most "cinnamon" sold globally is actually Cassia—a cheaper, harsher bark. We offer the "Gold Standard": 100% True Ceylon Cinnamon.
Common Cassia contains high levels of Coumarin (~1%), which can be toxic. Our Cinnamomum verum contains only traces (~0.004%), making it safe for daily wellness.
We disrupt the spice trade by sharing 50% of production profits directly with our artisan peelers in Malimbada. Your purchase builds a community.

The difference is critical for health. Cassia (common supermarket cinnamon) contains high levels of Coumarin (~1%), a compound linked to liver damage if consumed daily.
Our Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) contains ultra-low Coumarin traces (~0.004%), making it safe for daily wellness routines. It also has a sweeter, more delicate flavor profile compared to the harsh heat of Cassia.
